Inventory Departments

Inventory Departments are a higher-level group for your inventory items. The purpose of inventory departments is to group similar inventory items without using the hierarchical Inventory Categories.

The idea is not to create dozens of departments but to keep this list fairly small. When you want to report on how much aftercare versus body jewelry you’ve sold, it’s much easier to visualize by department than to drill down category by category.

Properties

Name: The name of the inventory department. The name is required and must be unique.

Default Sales Person: The active employee who receives the merchandise commission by default when an item in this department is added to a sale. This is useful for departments whose sales should normally be credited to a specific employee. The sales person can still be changed on the individual sale item.
